Tim joined the gym in April, and over the past 6 months he has made considerable progress in all aspects of his fitness. Tim is a 7:30am class regular, coming 3 times a week, and will also do a bit of extra work outside class time to hone his skills. Tim has shown that consistent effort and a positive attitude can help make every second at the gym count! Read below to learn about how Tim responds to feedback, what he feels most proud of in his training, and his goals moving forward.
How does training/CrossFit fit into your life? CrossFit is important to me. But there are only so many hours in the day. And family and work have priority (unfortunately) I really enjoy the flexibility that CrossFit gives me, to attend a different time if I need to.
What reasons did you have to train when you started CrossFit? Have those reasons changed? If so, how? I started CrossFit to assist in me losing weight. I have lost 35 pounds. (insert happy face emojii here)
So yes, my reasons have changed. I can’t lose more weight, so now I'm trying to improve on my overall strength and health.
Have you changed the way you eat since you began CrossFit, If so, how? Yes I have. You guys work me hard when I'm there. and it is dumb for me to do that, and then eat crap. So I spend much more time thinking about my groceries.
What do you eat on a typical day?
Breakfast - Coffee and sourdough flaxseed toast with PB
Mid-day snack - apple or something,
Lunch is a bigger meal - always leftovers from the night before
Glass of wine with my wife to sit and discuss the day
Supper for me is normally a leaf salad with spinach, veggies and some sort of protein
What improvements have you made in the past 6 months that you are most proud of? Improvements that I have made? - I'm going to say myself. I have improved myself.
HA! this summer has been the first summer in YEARS! That I have not felt embarrassed to take my shirt off on the boat when we had friends visit. Hey - you asked. and the 35 pounds thing is very cool.
But seriously, - to answer the question I think you are asking, I am now walking / jogging almost every day to the end of my road and back (about 3 KM) takes me about 20 - 25 minutes.
Do you currently have a main focus or goal(s) with your training? My goal was for weight loss, now it is for continued health, and measured improvement.
I like to go in, give it my absolute best, try to do the workout with a bit more weight, or a bit quicker than last time. I want to show continued improvement.
What would you consider to be your greatest strength as an athlete? I don't pretend to be an expert at anything, quite the opposite, but it is always my desire to get things right. I'm not a quitter. I try and hear when the instructor gives me advice, and I try and adjust my technique to do it correctly. I want the instructor to feel that his/her time is not wasted on trying to help me along.
What is one thing that you do every day that you feel is essential in contributing to your success in the gym? Positive attitude. No matter how I feel on the walk in, I know for the next hour, there's nothing I can do about anything outside of these walls. So I focus positively on the workout.
Being the age I am, and with everything I have going on, I enjoy the hour for the mental break from normal life stressors, as well as the work out.
If you could give yourself one piece of advice when you started CrossFit, what would it be? A letter to my younger self?
Dear Tim,
These people won't judge you. They want you to succeed. Just be willing to learn what they want to teach you, and you'll be just fine.
And PS, you won't miss the cheezees as much as you think you will.
Do you have a favourite quotation or mantra related to training? If I Come to CrossFit, ready, every day to contribute to the success of the group, then it is impossible for me not to have success.
Is there anything you would like to add? I am proud to be a member of your community.
